EKI-1321/1322 User Manual 56
5.8.5 Setting RFC2217 Operating Mode parameters
RFC-2217 mode is similar to Real COM mode in that a driver is used to establish a
transparent connection between a host computer and a serial device by mapping the
serial port on the EKI-132x to a local COM port on the host computer. RFC2217
defines general COM port control options based on the Telnet protocol.
Listen Port: This is the TCP port number assignment for the serial port on the EKI-
132x. It is the port number that the serial port uses to listen to connections, and that
other devices must use to contact the serial port. To avoid conflicts with well known
TCP ports, the default is set to 5500.
Host Idle Timeout (seconds): The “Host Idle Timeout” setting monitors the connec-
tion between the host and the device. If the “Host Idle Timeout” setting time is
reached, the device server will release the resources allocated to the port mapping.
This prevents a stalled host from affecting the connected device.
